Guest Lecture “Εnvironmental Law and the EU Internal Market” – 2024/25 LL.M. in International & European Law

On Thursday 29 May 2025, prof. dr. Daan Bijnens will provide a guest lecture titled: “Recent developments in the case law of the ECJ on Environmental Impact Assessments: a bottom-up perspective” for the course “Εnvironmental Law and the EU Internal Market” in the context of the 2024/25 LL.M. in International & European Law. He will introduce the topic of the Environmental and Strategic Impact Assessments in EU secondary legislation and discuss some recent developments in the case law of the European Court of Justice in this regard.

Daan Bijnens is an Assistant Professor in public procedure law at the Law Faculty of Hasselt University (Belgium). He is also a Visiting Professor in constitutional law at Ghent University (Belgium). He previously was a research and teaching assistant in constitutional at Hasselt University law, where he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the principle of legality in the Belgian Constitution within the constitutional order of the European Union in November 2020. Apart from his academic affiliations he works as a legal expert and case law coordinator at the Flemish Administrative Courts in Brussels where he specializes in administrative and environmental law.
